Having trouble identifying this connector

Hi everyone,

I would like to inquire information about the type of female 32-pin connector used in the I/O port shown in the picture. I have been looking for this connector for 3 weeks now without any luck. Could you help me in finding the model number of this connector. The connector is mounted on ISA DRTS64 which is an automatic relay test set (info about the product can be found in the manual on ISA DRTS64 page, but there is no info about the connector).

Thank you in advance!

This looks like an aerospace / military connector like this: https://www.airelectro.com/downloads/rms26500Catalog-022514.pdf

I took a screenshot of part of your picture (above) and uploaded it to Google Search. This provided me with lots of possible vendors for this. Sifting through it will take some time, but look for images that have that specific “notch” in the plug?

As @jensa mentions these are circular style connectors, tons of vendors. Note that they are normally sold as housings and you insert the contacts.

You can search on digikey for example “circular connectors” then select “housings”. Narrow it down by number of pins (32?), plastic material (or maybe composite), and that it uses a “threaded” mating instead of bayonet (unless it’s some sort of latch?).

You can further narrow it down to see if the size is standard (they have a variety of standard sizes & pin arrangements, check catalogs like linked above or here or here).

I will say that thread looks odd - normally the mating thread would be much more coarse if it was a standard style connector (see the catalogs for examples). It could be it mates some other way (latch/push-pull?). Be aware these can require expensive crimp tools etc, if the manufacturer sells a cable it may be worth it still.

Normally they will stamp the manufacturer somewhere, I would open up the unit and see on the backside, or there may be a PN listed along the internal flange. If it’s soldered to a PCB you may not be able to see this alas.

EDIT - author double posted and @ToyBuilder already found it in this thread.

It looks like a mil-spec or autosport type connector (but isn’t, see below)

Deutsch (TE) do the AS series autosport connectors, Soriau do interchangeable ones with the same keying colours but at lower cost.

That looks like plastic so not either of the above as they’re only available in aluminium, there are several aerospace circular connectors in plastic. Amphenol do a lot of these circular connectors in plastic so I’d be looking through their offerings as a first step

See my findings on the author’s original post: Help me identify this connector

While searching, I learned that MIL-STD circular connectors can come with EMI/EMP filters. That was a fun find.

looks like a D/38999 style connector, itt connect kfl, amphenol pt or lemo f series i usually get mine from glenair

I did check against a MIL-DTL-38999 catalog and the pin arrangement for 32 pins is staggered versus the aviation connector I found which have them in straight arrangements.

yeah it could well be an aviation, but there is a similar pattern pinned D where each row is fits the the circle across each the row as well, there are a lot of different pin patterns on mil specs
