USB-C Soldering Iron (TS80P vs HS-01) : Recommendations

Exciting update, keep at it. Money/Time invested in test jigs is always worth it IMO.

I have a project where I’ll need to solder away from my bench. I think it’s finally time to get one of these.

“Orders placed now ship Jul 03, 2026”
Yikes

Ah, sorry about that. The first batch, which covered all campaign pre-orders, has already shipped. Any order placed now will be part of the second batch, which is currently in production. Actually, the only missing parts are the PCBs, which take roughly a month to make. So a more realistic estimate for new orders would be mid-February.

I am super-psyched about Solder Ninja. Thanks @nschurando for making the effort (I have 2 prototype stage attempts at this with pretty much the same overall setup — machined aluminum, OLED screen and soft silicon sleeved cable.)

I did have these extra features/accessories that I always wanted in my setup:

  • Heat proof tip caps/covers so one can quickly pack up a hot tip without worrying about melting/setting things on fire when thrown into the bag (like GOOT PX-201).
  • Temp adjustment by tilting of the Iron using its IMU sensors. This may be an ill-conceived feature ready to burn someone’s hand, but doing several mock tests, I found it to be super intuitive and quick (e.g. Holding a button while tilting the iron, the change in tilt would equate change in temp — sort of like an air-dial).
  • Adding to the above, having snap to temp for common solder material temps such as “Lead” and “Lead-Free”.
  • Having a grounding attachment on the outer case.
