Aside from all the jokes I can make about Austinites needing to go mingle with the DFW folks, I don’t see this as a positive, since many of the SiLabs part compete with the cc2xxx parts. Not to mention I don’t see TI as a strong software provider in an age where that is increasingly important. SiLabs was a bit more insular than I would like, but they make good parts and were finally making moves into the Zephyr ecosystem in a clear way. I fear that may stall out (but hope they are instead a positive influence at TI)
I’m also very curious how this will go. The continued consolidation of hardware/chipmakers to manage competition or innovation (depends on your thoughts) is painful to watch.
I’m a big user of Silab’s older EZRadioPRO line of radios. For the last few years they try to get customers off the legacy chips with significant price increases. I dabbled with their newer radios as they became available (EZR32, EFR32G1, ..), but these went NRND faster than my back-burner development cycles, which put me off. So if the result is that TI keeps fabricating the old stuff, that’s a positive from my egotistical POV ![]()
Given that the CCxxxx line, at least by name, originates from the Chipcon acquisition in 2005, I’m somewhat hopeful for the radios. TI and MCU acquisitions is a whole different story. ![]()

Oh, and I sold my $SLAB for $118 (for a tidy profit) in November because I thought they’ve ran their course. No, I’m not bitter at all ![]()
