Solder tip recommendations

For through-hole components, I’ve been using a 2mm chisel tip on my iron.

What are others using for SOIC and 1206 packages?

Your 2 mm chisel should be fine for those parts. My usual tip is a 1.3 mm chisel and I use it for 0.5 mm pitch QFP, QFN, 0402, even the occasional 0201. I only use three tips and the other two are a 2.5 mm chisel and 0.5 mm conical.

Thanks @dlharmon – I’ll delay buying another tip and see how I get along my my 2mm chisel.
