Kody's Build Log

Here to update how my grain cables worked. In short did not go well.

What happened is that we installed it in one bin and then unloaded wheat into that bin. It would appear that the force of the wheat tore the wire itself apart. This was surprising to me since the previous version did not have wire rope or heat shrink included (all there was is the insulation that the wire came with). Wheat is a much heavier and abrasive grain than others used before so that most likely was the issue.

My plan now is to actually reach out to wiring assembly companies to see if they could make a cable to the specifications that is needed to withstand the unloading and loading into the bin. My home made methods take a long time and don’t appear to be working. I’d be interested to hear any body else’s ideas.

My next build log will probably focus on my efforts to go through and do all the labs of Learning the Art of Electronics!
