This is a bit of a dumb question, but I’ve only ever hand-assembled DIP switches before so I’ve never needed to consider it.
For a standard DIP switch, does pin number 1 coincide with switch position 1? I.e. the bottom left pin when viewed naturally. It would seem obviously so, but having checked many data sheets I can’t find a single one that has a pin 1 marking.
Not a dumb question at all - it once cost me an extra hour of work on a small project (and that was with manual soldering!)
I couldn’t find such information in datasheets either. However, judging from the models I saw which have an unequivocal physical marker (tiny notch, dot etc.), that marker always agrees with switch #1 in its off position. So, for what it’s worth, this seems to be the rule.
Some 40-ish years ago there wasn’t any real conformity to DIP switch pin numbering, but nowadays it does seem that the vast majority of switch manufacturers are following this convention.
And yes, I’m so old that I still use words like “nowadays”
