Working on a product that uses BLE internally to communicate between system components. The product does not need to interoperate with any other devices, claim compatibility, display BT logos, etc…
Do we need BQB qualification? Kinda looks like we do. Anyone have any experience with this?
This may be a silly question, but are you using a module? If so you should be able to use a pre-certified module and have no other worries besides unintentional radiators in your country.
If your unit volumes justify designing from chip level, then it would seem to be in the budget to do something application specific and custom and not laden with the protocol complexity of BLE?
Certainly I could be missing some important context on the project.
BQB has nothing to do with unintentional radiators or EMC. It’s about paying the organization responsible for the Bluetooth standard the fees they demand for using patented technology.
that is a tricky topic which is not specifically mentioned in the qualification process.
Here is a possible line of reasoning without deep inspection:
From a CE standpoint it would fall under RED → therefore BLuetooth is used in its designated function and form-> so one could argue that it falls under the qualifying process as any other product.
In a simple line, just ask the Bluetooth SIG.
adopter membership is free only the qualification per device costs apply.
But if you use a module those fees are typically paid by the module manufacturer. The only requirement I’m aware of is that you have to be a member of the SIG if you put the BT logo on your product or packaging.
Where did you get the info about Modules?
Constructing a product with a module is construing a new product, it just makes it very likely to be compliant but does not lift any requirements for your product.
this seems to clash with these terms:
Q 16 only refers to listing of subsequent devices using the same already qualified DID.
→ the listing fee still applies but the testing does not have to be redone.
And on top I see no signs on this site that these questions have even been answered by the Bluetooth SIG.
As far as I can see this is just a chinese company site so no authority or validity evident to these Q&A lists.
