I followed the tutorial that Chris has posted to build a small hat for the Raspberry Pi. I’ve been a professional software engineer for the past 20 years, but this is my first time ever successfully using a piece of PCB design software. My boards have been ordered and I got the parts from Digi-Key already waiting for Saturday to be assembled.

Here’s hoping I actually did everything right and that my $5 won’t just make useless keychains or something.

Success! Don’t mind the ugly solder job. It looked better before I realized that the leds were on backwards. Also, it was my first time soldering a surface mount component.
